More than just a meal!

Today, I thought I would share a little bit about our amazing project at Kairos for ladies, Breakfast with Wendy!  When you first hear the name, you may well think it's all about food, but, as the title of this post says, it's so much more than just a meal!

I've always had a desire to serve God and the people around me, but I felt a special burden on my heart during the period when we were beginning Kairos, to work with women.  I believe that women have a special place in God's heart, and that sometimes we need specific encouragement - which we can offer each other.  That's why, in January 2011, with the support of the whole Kairos team, I decided to begin this monthly event for girls and women from Timisoara and the surrounding area.

Our Breakfast with Wendy meetings are always on a Saturday morning, from 10am.  Our amazing team is always there early, preparing breakfast and setting the tables with beautiful chinaware and flowers.  It's very important for us to create a beautiful, relaxing environment where women will feel valued and even spoiled - it may well be the only time in the month when they are served at a table laid by someone else, with food they didn't cook!  Yes, it means a lot of preparation and also a lot of washing up, but we believe that every one of our girls is worth it!

We also try to prepare tasty food that everyone will enjoy.  We try to vary what we put on the tables - sometimes it's fresh veg and sandwiches, at other times we'll make a cooked breakfast or have European-style croissants and coffee.  It's often hard to know how much to prepare, as most times we have unexpected guests turn up, but God is good and we've never been in the situation of not having enough food!

After everyone's had enough to eat and drink, someone (often me but not always!) will speak a message of encouragement for the girls.  Many times we will share lessons we've learned in our own lives - usually through problems or mistakes that we have made.  The atmosphere is open and trusting, as our special rule is that "What is said in Breakfast with Wendy, stays in Breakfast with Wendy!" The ladies who participate are encouraged to share their own thoughts, problems and testimonies, and we always pray for the people who need help.

One special activity we do at Breakfast with Wendy is making a prayer blanket - something I learned from a dear sister in Christ, Judy Buch.  We take two fleece blankets, kneel around them and cut fringes into the edges, and then knot the fringes together while praying for the person the blanket is for - usually someone with great need for God's touch in their life. Part of our meetings is always about caring for those in need and being a real support in their lives.

Our most recent meeting at Breakfast with Wendy was last Saturday - the 7th of February.  We had a record number of 50 ladies with us, which is a great blessing, but also a challenge in our cosy upstairs room!  13 of these ladies were with us for the first time, so each of them received a small present - this is one of our favourite parts of BWW, because who doesn't love receiving presents? We were very encouraged to have Oana Iliesi speak to us, about her life and experience.  It was a beautiful atmosphere, and I really think it was our best meeting yet!  The food, fun and fellowship was exceptional.  Burdens were shared, as well as many a good laugh as we told stories about how God has brought us all through dark times, and brought us together to help each other grow deeper in the ways of God. The team (and extended team) helped us to clear up afterwards which is no small task with fifty girls!

I'd love to tell you more about my amazing team, but I'll have to leave that for another time!

Our next Breakfast with Wendy meeting will be on the 7th of March - just before Ladies' Day, and we're expecting to have a large group of wonderful women!  If you're in Timisoara then, we'd love to have you with us!

Lots of love,

Despre iubire...

Summary of last year

We all know procrastination is a sin, but all of us do it at times. This has been my problem in regard to keeping our Kairos Blog updated. Life is busy and time passes too quickly.  I just want to write a short summary of last year - 2014 - and then add some of our plans for the future in 2015!
2014 was a year full of exciting events!

In January we recommenced our ‘Breakfast with Wendy’ with one of our largest meetings so far. Our BWW team is doing a great job!

February brought us a visit from Alin Padureanu with a ‘Day with Daddy’ T-shirt in acknowledgement for his organisation (ABC) using Kairos for their annual meal with prisoners from Timisoara and their families.

March - Our Kairos Leadership team is growing stronger all the  time as we spend time with each other and serve God together.

April - Our Easter Celebration is always fun, “breaking our Easter eggs” as a family,  remembering the death and resurrection of Jesus. Also, Solo Café was launched, being an opportunity for those who are still free and single to get together to have fellowship.

In May we celebrated another great Water Baptism. Three wonderful young people chose to be baptised, and two others became members, so in total we welcomed 5 new people into the Kairos family. We’re thrilled that God is still calling people to follow Him.

June - we enjoyed a lovely visit from our friends and supporters from Scotland: Izzy and Nick. We showed them the beautiful city that God has chosen to place us in.

July - Sava taught in the ‘Didasko Project’ in Metanoia Church, a leadership program for those who want to grow spiritually. Also, holiday time begins, with many barbecues and special times around the pool.

In August we were sad to see Simon Stef leaving for a new life in America, but our loss was their gain. We enjoyed a great surprise celebration at the engagement of Gaby and Catalin and later in the month we celebrated the beautiful wedding of Lorena and Dani (Our first since the launch of Kairos).

September - the Pastors of BNT (Non-Denominational Churches in Timisoara) joined with us in Kairos for a lovely breakfast.

October saw us enjoying the 4th Anniversary of Kairos. Time sure does fly.

November saw the preparations begin for our Christmas Projects. One hundred shoe boxes arrived from Romanians in Chicago (W.I.N.G.S.) and the money for our special Christmas food box project was raised by our own Kairos family.

December brought celebrations in our ‘Breakfast with Wendy’ with a surprise visit from Father Christmas. We practiced for our Carol Singing event and we enjoyed our fabulous Christmas Eve Buffet.

This is just a quick summary of what has taken a whole year to live through and enjoy! Kairos continues to grow and we see great advancement in everyone’s lives. We have enjoyed having our ‘Internship Program’ (two or three people who are members in Kairos chosen to be part of our leadership team) joining us in the team meetings and taking part in the active life of the church for a three month period.

We can’t wait to see what God has for us in 2015 and in our next blog post we will share some of our plans and dreams for the future. See you soon and please write to us if we can pray with you. We will happily do so!

We are back!

Da..unitate in diversitate..suntem atat de diferiti si totusi incercam sa ne acceptam si sa ne iubim unii pe altii…familia asta despre care va vorbeam la inceput..nu e o familie inchisa..suntem tot timpul gata sa “adoptam” si alti membrii..suntem deschisi si iubareti [J]  dar mai ales, suntem transparenti..nu ne ascundem..what you see is what you get.

Sau, cel putin, asta e parerea mea.
                                                                                                                                  Cristina Radoi :)

Happy New Year!!!!

2011 has been a great year for Kairos. We have inducted 17 new members, baptised 7 people in water and our new Sunday morning service now has around 30 regular attendees…….but these are just numbers. What really blesses us is not the numbers but the individual people that each of these numbers represent. It’s not the fact that we baptised 7 people that made 2011 great, it’s that we helped Mitza, Voislava, Ovidio, Sabina, Simon, Alex and sister Victoria grow in their relationship with God and find the courage to make a public commitment to Him.

Life is a journey and we all need travelling companions: people who will support us and encourage us to overcome the obstacles we encounter along the way; people who believe in us; people who are strong when we are weak; people to laugh with; people to cry with, people to talk to. Have you ever noticed how even the best moments in life are sadly lacking if you have no-one to share them with. We all need travelling companions and I believe that’s what God intended the church to be. A family of people walking together, living life together, encouraging one another, helping one another because we all need help. And not only do we all need help, we all need the opportunity to offer help to others too. If we focus all our attention on our own sufferings or even on our own happiness we will never find the joy we truly seek. It is only when we look around, when we seek the happiness of others, when we smile for someone else’s sake that we find any kind of true fulfilment. Church is a wonderful place to receive love and an even better place to give it.
